The Black Women Behind the Lens #roniebondBHM

Over on Instagram we’ve been working a content repost series celebrating the Black British women behind the lens. Here are the young hustlers featured in the series.

The very existence of black women, is almost political by nature and through their bold works and authentic approach to bringing diversity to the forefront of conversations, young Black British Female photographers are empowering entire cohorts by validating their image.

The image of the ‘black’ woman – whose entire existence has often been subject to dynamic forms of oppression from various social and ethnic groups – can be innately controversial, in modern media she is often heavily sexualised, fetishised or completely erased.

Through exploring the work of photographers such as Dazhane Leah, Ronan McKenzie and Danika Magdalena, we’re simultaneously exploring the diverse nature of the black woman as creator and muse, photographer and subject. #RONIEBONDBHM

Dazhane Leah

It’s October. It’s Black History Month🇬🇧. To celebrate we’ll be sharing photography by some of our favourite Black Female Photographers. Thank you to all the photographers who have taken the time to dedicate their craft to documenting a new normal, faces that aren’t celebrated by the everyday mainstream media, the democratisation of content creation has allowed us to exist and it’s beautiful. ❤️🙌🏾 First off is our fave @dazhaneleahphotos whose incredible eye has enabled her to amass a huge social following through the creation of bold, captivating and crisp images of her own personal style on her Instagram account @dazhaneleah. As a photographer, her work explores a range of different themes including identity and gender as she creates powerful portraits that are vibrant but romantic and important to the evolution of culture as a whole. Explore more of her work here @dazhaneleahphotos.➡️➡️➡️ Thank you for inspiring this content sharing series Dazhane, you da best. #blackhistorymonth #blackbritishwomen #undergroundcreatives #roniebondgang #roniebondbhm

The summer of love film she created with BBZ’s @mxnadinedavis and @tiasimoncampbell is sick tho, like emotionally moving, captivating, important to the progression of humanity, you NEED to see it.. To say the least, Ronan’s art makes us feel good inside. And with so much incredible work behind her (like shooting for Vogue and American Apparel and her exhibition at the @doomedgallerydalston) whatever is to come is going to be fire. No doubt. #roniebondBHM #londonsfinest #blackgirlmagic #younghustlers
