Loz & Gigi – an intro to BLESSED
Although they are new faces in the game, Loz and Gigi have been grafting behind the scenes for a while, working on formulating a new sound led by their sweet but strong vocal harmonies. It’s exciting to see the chemistry between the real life SISTER (not twin) duo, as they bounce off eachother in writing sessions, meetings and on stage. Last month we had the privilege of seeing them live at Sofar Sounds where they showcased new music – think positive vibes and upbeat but with lyrical depth.
Here’s an intro to BLESSED. The music duo you need in your life. Keep your eyes locked on socials as we’re sure new music is coming this summer.
Introduce yourself for those who don’t know you, who are you and what do you do?
Loz: We’re Blessed, I’m Loz and this is Gigi. We are a sister duo from South London.
Why did you call yourself BLESSED?
Loz: It was floating around our family while we was trying to choose names but we thought it was a bit cheesy at first. Then our marketing manager said it and we thought that was so weird as he wasn’t aware that we had been considering it. Then our nan got ill and recovered, so at that time we just felt so blessed that she was well again, and just thought that we couldn’t ignore all the signs telling us to use that name.
How long have you been making music for?
Gigi: We’ve always loved music, but over the years we took our own paths singing. It wasn’t till about 3 years ago we started writing together, it came so naturally and was so much fun that we realised it was only right for us to work together and become a duo!
“Growing up we both loved Missy Elliot, Usher and Christina Aguilera. As we both got older and started to have our own individual tastes, I leant more to the pop side and Loz R&B, which we defiantly think is represented in our music now.”
Describe your sound in 3 words?
Loz: Energetic, vibrant , & well seasoned !!
Gigi: Our sound definitely sits in the pop lane but naturally we draw from our caribbean roots.
Who are the artists that have inspired you the most?
Gigi: Growing up we both loved Missy Elliot, Usher and Christina Aguilera. As we both got older and started to have our own individual tastes, I leant more to the pop side and Loz R&B, which we defiantly think is represented in our music now.
What’s it like working with your sister?
Loz: It’s actually such a blessing (no pun intended) we really are best friends and work so well together! Communication is so important, we feel like it’s so much easier to express things to your sister as no one has your back like your family does.
Your secret talent is that you’re super sick DJs, how did you get started and when do you plan to unleash these talents to the world?
Loz: We started a year ago because we love house music. We had to put it on the back burner for a while so we could put creating new music and our Ep first. There’s no immediate plans but it’s something we will definitely come back to as it’s another one of our passions.
What was it like performing at Sofar Sounds the other day?
Gigi: It was amazing to get our first performance of the year done but In such a nice intimate setting. Everyone is really there for the music and it was just a perfect way to sing our EP tracks for the first time.
What’s next for BLESSED?
Loz: We want to keep creating new music and for our sound to keep evolving! Perform as much a possible this year! Festivals! Hopefully have our first headline show that would be amazing and to just see everyone’s response to the EP ! We can’t wait !
Are there any artists that you’d love to collaborate with?
Gigi: There are honestly so many especially as we really want to experiment with our sound and to dip into multiple genres. But currently we are loving MoStack we think that his type of energy would work really well with our songs. Also TyDolla Sign were just in love with every album he drops and he’s got such a beautiful tone.
Loz: We think working with a such a talented UK female artist like Ms Banks would be really special, we’ve been big fans of her for awhile and it’s so nice to see her getting the recognition she deserves.
Where do you wanna be in 5 years and how can (we) the RONIEBOND community help you get there?
Gigi: We really want to build BLESSED as a brand to have our mark on the fashion and beauty industry as well as music. It would be amazing if we were touring our album and traveling the world and even better if we could squeeze the DJing on the side.
Loz: You guys can Tell a friend to tell a friend. Keep spreading the word!
