A little while ago we spoke to our babes Abondance about her project ROADGALS. But aside from bringing hood feminism to the forefront of conversations, Abondance is a poet with a unique perspective and on Tuesday (October 10th) at the Barbican, she’ll be introducing two incredible films, “Mi Vida Loca”and “Top Girl”.
What’s Mi Vida Loca about?
Released in 1995 and directed by Allison Anders, Mi Vida Loca centres around sisterhood and the decisions young women must make for themselves and their children in the face of social change – think gentrification and increasing violence.
What’s Top Girl about?
You know we live for nostalgia and London, so this film is right up our alley. Set in the mid 2000s in Brixton, it’s a coming of age story with black and brown girls making sense of growing up in a man’s world.
Are you coming through?
